I would like to know if you plan to offer something other than Google Maps to display events on a map.

Indeed Google Maps reduced its free quota some time ago and I fear it will be exceeded quickly, and I also fear that they will reduce the quota again.

A few months ago I used the Open User Map plugin and they offer in their setting to choose the style of map you want, including:
     
Esri WorldStreetMap
OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap(Germany)
CartoDB DarkMatter
CartoDB Positron
Esri WorldImagery
Light with big labels
Purple Glow with big labels
Blue with big labels
MapBox Streets
MapBox Outdoors
MapBox Light
MapBox Dark

And they explain when the map requires an API.

The map is important with WP Event Manager and I think it will be a good idea to purpose other map.
